The Breakfast Dress

What is this dress?
This is the dress Rose wears to morning tea with Cal the morning after she goes to the dance with Jack. It's a very pretty and quite simple dress. Here are some pictures.

Have you made this dress?
No.

What fabric(s) is this dress made of?
I'm not 100% sure, but I would recommend using a gold/yellow satin for the underdress and cream colored or white lace for the overcoat.

What pattern(s) will I need for this dress?
You will need an empire waist gown, preferable sleeveless, with just straps. Some good patterns are Simplicity 9125 and Simplicity 8399 (Without all the overskirts and over bodice's). 8399 is the best pattern to use because it is also two Titanic patterns (and can be used with several other Titanic dresses), but it is not made anymore. You can get it over monsterpatterns.com though, or perhaps Ebay. I will be writing this as if you are using 8399, so I would recommend getting it.

What extra touches does this dress take?
There is flower trim that should probably be hand applied, but besides that not much.

How much time will this dress take?
Not long at all if you have sewing experience.

How much will this dress cost me?
You will need 3 meters of satin and 4 of sheer, depending on your size. Sheer can be from $7-15.00 a meter (not embroidered) to $25.00-ish a meter (embroidered). Satin is about $10-15.00 a meter.

What alterations will this dress need?
The overcoat bodice neckline will need to be altered so that it is diagonal, not square and meets at the front.

A fairly simple alteration. The overskirt will also need to be slit up the center, made to flare out and then pool at the floor.

Anything else?
Nope.

Ok, how do I make it?
1. Sew the underdress as the pattern directs. Finish with lining, zipper and hem.

2. Sew The overcoat as the pattern directs, except attatch the skirt to to overbodice, not the bodice.

3. Embroider the overcoat now if you have to.

4. Add the flower trim. It's best to hide a hook and eye (or two) behind the trim to fasten the overcoat with at the 'waist'.

5. That's it!
